Professional dental whitening is safe, suitable for almost everyone and provides patients with a predictable cosmetic outcome. Best of all it can be completed in a single one hour appointment.
Why Quality Dental?
Dr Pulvirenti and his Brisbane team love seeing the thrill that Teeth Whitening gives to their patients. Zoom really does deliver predictable consistent results as shown by our professional before and after photos. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the superb patient care and amenities that Quality Dental has to offer.
How does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth Whitening works by changing the natural colour of the tooth. A whitening gel is applied to the surface of the tooth and the active ingredient of hydrogen peroxide penetrates the tooth’s enamel. This causes a chemical reaction that breaks down the staining compounds and neutralises discolouration by whitening the surrounding enamel and internal dentin.
In-Chair Teeth Whitening
We exclusively use the Philips’ Zoom In-Chair Whitening system and here are the reasons why:
- The treatment uses 25% hydrogen peroxide whitening gel with a cooling blue activation light.
- The Zoom WhiteSpeed light increases the bleaching reaction of the hydrogen peroxide in the gel to deliver accelerated whitening.
- The Zoom system whitens teeth up to 8 shades lighter than the patient’s existing tooth colour.
- Our in-chair whitening treatment is completed in around one hour.
At your Teeth Whitening visit, your teeth will first be assessed to ensure they’re condition is ready for whitening. The treatment itself consists of 3 x 20 minute passes where the light repeats the activation of the gel. Protective barriers are used to cover the lips, gums and inner cheeks, so there is no contact with the whitening gel. Each additional pass intensifies the level of whitening, producing immediate and dramatic results that you can enjoy by the end of the one hour session.
And of course, you will be able sleep, listen to your best playlist, or watch your favourite Netflix show while all the magic happens.
Your Ideal Shade of White
The great technology in the Zoom In-Chair Whitening system allows Dr Pulvirenti to deliver outstanding results. The one hour treatment consists of 3 x 20 minute passes and we closely monitor the whiteness of your teeth throughout the process. By the end of the session, we are extremely confident that you will love the natural, crispy and refreshed appearance of your teeth for many years to come.
Cosmetic Benefits of Teeth Whitening
Teeth Whitening is the most effective, most conservative and most affordable way to reverse the effects of food and wine staining / tinting and ageing. People in this category will often reduce the amount that they smile, or cover their mouth with their hand so as to not show their dark teeth. In just one hour, these tints and colours can be eliminated and confidence can be restored with our wonderful Zoom In-Chair Whitening system.
Of course, in younger people, teeth are naturally whiter. In these cases, Teeth Whitening will create a more uniform brighter smile across the entire surface of the teeth.
There are some instances though, where the outer layers of teeth (the enamel), have defects, resulting in severely dark stains and sometimes unsightly patterns. These are conditions that are more successfully transformed with Porcelain Veneers. With these types of conditions, we recommend you book a consultation with Dr Pulvirenti to learn more.
How long will results last?
The results of teeth whitening are permanent. However, lifestyle choices will impact upon the whiteness of your teeth following your Zoom treatment. Certain food and beverages can stain and discolour the tooth’s enamel over time, and this will occur at a faster rate if you indulge on a regular basis. Coffee, tea, red wine, coloured sports’ drinks and smoking are the biggest causes of discolouration. We understand you may not want to give up these indulgences so we offer in-chair whitening top-ups for patients who notice a reduction in brightness after a few years. To keep your whitened teeth looking their brightest we recommend brushing and flossing twice a day and having a regular professional check-up and clean.
Advantages of In-Chair Whitening
The in-chair whitening system delivers a number of advantages over home whitening products. The higher percentage of hydrogen peroxide used and Zoom light increases the number of shades the whitening system can deliver. You only require a single treatment and the results are immediate, more noticeable and permanent. You are also likely to experience less sensitivity with in-chair whitening compared to at-home whitening products.
Tooth Sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity from whitening can vary between the product and treatment system, as well as the individual patient. There are occasional instances where teeth whitened in-chair can become temporarily sensitive. Sensitivity can feel like a mild tingling or can come as a short, sharp flash. The good news is that if you do experience any sensitivity from whitening, or if you have sensitive teeth generally, this can be easily managed with Philips’ Relief Gel. The gel contains amorphous calcium phosphate that counteracts sensitivity, remineralises the tooth’s enamel and restores enamel lustre. Every patient is provided with Philip’s Relief Gel post-whitening in their Quality Dental After Whitening Care Pack.
At Home Whitening Solutions
At-home whitening kits are a great cost-effective alternative if you can’t find time for an appointment. While the results are gradual, you can still achieve a bright and beautiful smile in the comfort of your own home (or office!). The whitening gel contains a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide so you may need to repeat the application to achieve the shade of white you want. The kits usefully contain a number of whitening applications so you can top up at your convenience. At Quality Dental we stock the take home Philips’ Zoom DayWhite Whitening Kit (ACP & 14% hydrogen peroxide). This contains a professional grade tooth whitening gel that is only available from dental practices. The DayWhite formula is typically applied and worn for 15-30 minutes twice during the day, using clear plastic retainers.
The ACP (Amorphous Calcium Phosphate) formula is unique to Philips and has been clinically proven to reduce tooth sensitivity by 30%. The ACP naturally bonds with the tooth surface to fill microscopic spaces though remineralisation, rebuilding the tooth’s enamel and restoring the tooth’s glossy surface. The kit also boasts an innovative dual-barrel syringe that keeps the ingredients separate until they blend at the tip during application. This patented technology allows the ingredients to retain their maximum strength for much longer, reduce wastage and increase effectiveness.
Skip the Supermarket Products
Save yourself the money and leave these whitening products on the supermarket shelf. They can’t match the concentrated whitening delivered by professional dental whitening products. From a cosmetic perspective the results are not as predictable or uniform and can deliver a less natural looking whiteness. Because of the minimal colour change these products can affect, people tend to over use them. Overuse or prolonged application can damage the tooth’s enamel, particularly with abrasive whitening toothpastes. Your best bet is to invest in professional whitening products that deliver what they promise. Teeth Whitening is a great cosmetic dental treatment that creates a look for everyone. Our Zoom patients are proof that whiter brighter teeth really can –
- rejuvenate the appearance of your smile
- reduce the ageing effects of discoloured and stained teeth
- highlight straightened Invisalign treated teeth, and
- virtually erase the signs of certain lifestyle habits!
If you have any concerns about the health of your teeth, or if you want to find out if whitening is the right treatment for you, we recommend that you book a cosmetic consultation with Dr Matthew Pulvirenti.
